Overview of the University of Twente Scholarship (UTS)

The University of Twente Scholarship is awarded to top-performing international students (top 5–10%) applying for eligible Master’s programmes. It is designed to attract academically outstanding students and help them become part of the university’s global community of innovators and researchers.

The scholarship does not directly pay tuition fees. Instead, it is awarded as a financial contribution, and recipients decide how to use the funds for study and living expenses.

Scholarship Value and Financial Support

The UTS provides:

  • €3,000 – €22,000 for one year
  • Possible extension for second year (for 2-year Master’s programmes)
  • Additional scholarship opportunity (Kipaji Scholarship)

This funding helps reduce the financial burden of studying in the Netherlands, though it is not a fully funded scholarship.

Two-Year Master’s Programme Funding

Students enrolled in a two-year MSc programme may receive the scholarship again for the second year — but only if academic performance requirements are met.

To continue receiving the scholarship in Year 2, you must:

  • Achieve an average grade of 7/10
  • Earn at least 50% of required European Credits (ECTS) by the third quartile of Year 1

Failure to meet these requirements means the scholarship will not continue into the second year.

Additional Funding — Kipaji Scholarship

Some UTS recipients may also qualify for the Kipaji Scholarship, which provides extra financial support.

To be considered:

  • You must first apply for the UTS
  • Indicate interest in Kipaji in your motivation letter
  • Meet additional eligibility requirements

The Kipaji Scholarship is available only for programmes starting in September 2026.
