Splatoon 3 Confirms Another Major Change to its Best Modes
The Splatoon 3 would not be coming out until September 9, but a recent presentation entails that showcased a deep dive into what we can be expecting from the Nintendo Switch multiplayer shooter. That included more details on the horde mode-esque Salmon Run which is would be heading back to Splatoon 2.
But Nintendo wants one better with a post-direct update on the official Splatoon website, confirming that Salmon Run can be played “at any time.” For context, Salmon Run’s very first iteration in the Splatoon 2 was a limited-time mode, and this could only be played on some particular days of the week during select time periods.
Run the Salmon
I cannot stress enough just how welcome of a change this would be to splatoon 3’s Salmon Run mode. This means that squids and octolings both would be able to access Mr. Grizz’s shady part-time gig whenever they want to. No longer do they get shackled by a schedule that dictates when they can and cannot play the mode.
The developers timed the gated Salmon Run because they thought it might sway the player base away from the meat of the game. That being those Moreish Turf war multiplayer battles. At the time, though, that decision ended up backfiring due to Salmon Run’s popularity.
As a result of this change, we actually might get spared any more fear of missing out on Salmon Run. In Splatoon 2, Salmon Run rewards were locked to a particular time period just like the mode itself stated. This hopefully would not be an issue now, if the players are simply able to jump right into the mode whenever they want to.
Splatoon 3 Players
It should also help Splatoon 3 players feel like they are given more options in general. The game would offer the usual suite of competitive multiplayer modes alongside a new single-player campaign. But, it is great to actually see that Nintendo has been confident enough to elevate salmon run to one of Splatoon 3’s pillars, as opposed to a novel distraction.
We wouldn’t be seeing the new Salmon Run until launch, but Nintendo would be offering players the chance to try out Splatoon 3 right before it launches with the game’s inaugural Splatfest. These special competitive events would differ in Splatoon 3 by offering three choices of teams instead of just offering two.
