Microsoft Overtakes Apple to Become World’s Most Valuable Company. Microsoft has finally surpassed Apple’s market cap on Friday to become the world’s most valuable public company.
The change follows Apple’s Thursday earnings, where the company posted strong results but publicized that it lost $6 billion to supply chain constraints.
On Tuesday, Microsoft also shared positive earnings boosted by Office, Windows, and its cloud products.
Microsoft Overtakes Apple to Become World’s Most Valuable Company
At Friday’s market close, Microsoft’s market cap was almost $2.49 trillion while Apple’s was about $2.46 trillion, according to CNBC.
This isn’t the first time Microsoft has passed Apple; the Windows-maker surpassed Apple’s market cap in 2018 for the first time since 2010 and once again in July 2020. (Alphabet has also taken the crown from Apple, surpassing Apple’s market cap in 2016.)
Apple the Former Leader
But Apple has been a leader in the markets for some time, being the first US company to hit a $1 trillion market cap in 2018 and, just two years later, becoming the first US company to hit a $2 trillion market cap. (The iPhone is still a massively successful product, after all.)
So it’s not out of the realm of possibility that Apple retakes the title of the world’s most valuable company sometime soon.

Through its marketing and products, Microsoft has done more than any other company to help users find ways to integrate computing into their daily lives.
Microsoft regularly is ranked one of the best places to work. Programmers are respected, and creativity is encouraged. Plus, the company pays well to boot.
Apple is best known as the maker of the iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch, but it is underappreciated for its work in designing the chips that power its devices and allow them to be even more powerful.
It has quality-based products, including many extra features, and is well-known for its creativity and smartness.
MacBooks and iPhones are the main products of Apple which are signs of success and popularity. The brand doesn’t only contain iPhone but many more advanced products with an outstanding variety.
Microsoft Stock More than Apple’s Stock
Microsoft last topped Apple in market cap in 2020 as the coronavirus pandemic wreaked havoc on supply chains. It first closed above a $2 trillion market cap in June after revealing the first major update to Windows in more than five years.
At market close, Microsoft’s stock was up more than 48% year to date, while Apple’s had risen almost 13%.
