The second edition of the IGNITE Food Systems Challenge 2023 is now open for applications from the 6th of March to the 31st of March 2023 at 11:59 pm (CAT). This year, the program will be held in Rwanda.
The Impact Hub Kigali (IHK) is offering this challenge in partnership with the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), the USAID Bureau of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
IGNITE Food Systems Challenge 2023
The aim of this challenge in Rwanda is to create solutions that will address food insecurity by strengthening food systems.
Furthermore, IGNITE Food Systems Challenge will provide support for the advancement of Participating innovative Startups, MSMEs, and cooperatives, having viable solutions that can address the gaps in the food system.
The benefits of participating in this challenge include grant funding of up to $30,000 for a Successful Startup, plus 4 months of technical support to address business gaps.

Eligibility Criteria for IHK IGNITE Food Systems Challenge 2023
- To be eligible, Candidates must have valid registration/certificate of incorporation for operating in Rwanda
- The venture must be at least 1 year of operation
- Provide evidence of a revenue-generating business of at least the equivalent of USD 5,000 for the full year of 2022
- To be eligible, the business is expected to be with a team of at least 3 full-time members who are committed to the MSME/cooperative.
- A minimum of 50% of the founding and/or senior management team must be from Rwanda/East Africa
- The prospective entity must have existing key operations in Rwanda
