Before you proceed to bake your cake, it’s essential to first gather your ingredients and pre-heat oven to 325. You’ll need the following:

  • 1 cup of flour
  • 5 cups of sugar
  • 10 eggs (at room temperature)
  • 25 teaspoons of cream of tartar
  • 25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 25 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/3 cup confectioner’s sugar (for the cake’s top)

How to Bake a Cake 

After gathering your ingredients, you can proceed to bake your cake. Here’s how to bake a cake:

Step 1: Mix Cake Flour

Mix 1 cup of cake flour with 1/2 cup of sugar in a bowl and set it aside.

Step 2: Prepare Egg Whites

  • Separate egg whites from yolks one at a time in different bowls to avoid mixing yolk with whites.
  • Discard the yolks.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites from 10 eggs until they become stiff.
  • Slowly add 1 1/4 teaspoons of cream of tartar and 1/4 teaspoon of salt while continuing to beat for about one minute.

Step 3: Add Sugar and Flavouring

  • Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of sugar while still mixing the egg whites.
  • Remove the bowl from the mixer and stir in 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1/4 teaspoon of almond extract.

Step 4: Add Flour Mix

Take the cake flour and sugar mix you prepared earlier and fold it into the egg white mixture in 1/2 cup portions.

Step 5: Transfer to Cake Pan and Bake

  • Pour the mixture into an ungreased 10-inch tube pan or bundt cake pan.
  • Smooth the top.
  • Preheat your oven to 325°F and place the cake in the middle of the oven.
  • Bake for 50 to 55 minutes or until the top is nicely browned.
