HP EliteBook 840 G7
The EliteBook 840 G7 has almost everything we seek for in a business laptop. Features a good performance, comfortable keyboard, and trackpad, a nice-looking 14-inch 1080p screen.
Its battery life will last much long enough for a full day of schooling or work. But it’s thin and lightweight enough to slide into a bag. Additionally, this Laptop is easy to upgrade and users can replace the 840 G7’s parts yourself.
And DIY upgrades are more cost-effective than ordering plenty of additional memory or storage directly from HP. The EliteBook 840 G7 is costlier than an Ultrabook with similar specs. But you’ll save money on upgrades and repairs within the end of the day.
Lenovo ThinkPad L14: A More Upgradable ThinkPad
If you want an excellent keyboard and trackpad and good battery life. But you also want to spend a small amount less money and don’t mind something a bit heavier.
The Lenovo ThinkPad L14 is your best choice. Now that Lenovo’s T-series ThinkPads not offer user-upgradable memory. It weighs over half a pound quite the EliteBook 840 G7. Though both laptops provide a similar performance and similar screens and battery life.
But the L14 is simple to upgrade and fix, it’s ports that not all business laptops include. And it often costs about one-third but the EliteBook.
Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8: A thinner, lighter option with better battery life
The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 isn’t just an excellent business laptop. It’s one of the most effective laptops you can buy straight away from any manufacturer in any category.
This laptop is over a pound lighter than other business laptops we recommend. But it’s still easy to upgrade and repair, it offers a good selection of ports. And its battery life was still better than what we saw from anything we tested.
That lighter weight does bring with it a couple of drawbacks. Most notably the shortage of an SD or microSD card reader. We recommend buying the X1 Carbon with 16 GB of RAM rather than 8 GB.
That extra amount will help if you open dozens of browser tabs, edit photos, or add many large spreadsheets or databases.
HP ProBook 445 G7: Heavier but still great
The HP ProBook 445 G7 is about half the worth of the EliteBook 840 G7. Except for processor-intensive work like video editing and lightweight gaming, its AMD Ryzen 5 processor makes it faster overall.
It also features a solid keyboard and trackpad. And it offers upgradable memory and room for both different storage drives. But like all budget business laptops, it’s heavier than your average laptop.
And its battery life is merely okay. Our $700-ish recommended configuration doesn’t include a fingerprint reader or a face-scanning camera. Though you’ll add either or both if you’re willing to pay more.
