Amazon’s Kindle Gets a New Interface Refresh

Amazon has just recently announced that most of the recent kindles will be getting a new cleaner and simpler user interface via a software update through Ars Technica.  The update to more recent kindles is simple. And the just added update focuses on navigation, adding a bar to the bottom of your device screen that lets you jump between the home screen and the book you are reading at the time, and lastly a library screen. Although the update has been available to some kindle devices for a few weeks now, Amazon has announced that the said update will only be rolled out over the next few weeks widely.

Access to Kindle quick settings has also changed. This means that the way you use to turn in airplane mode, adjust brightness and many other things have now changed. Users can now access the menu by swiping down from the top of the screen of their devices instead of tapping on a button.

Also, Amazon has announced that more updates and changes will be coming late this year. The update will now let users see more recently read books on their home screen. The library’s collection view and the filter will also be refreshed and sort menus.

The official amazon webpage for the redesign of kindle’s interface says that the feature will be available to supported devices in the next few weeks. These devices include 8th generation kindles, 7th gen paperwhite, the Oasis, and later. In general, it will be available to kindle devices released since 2015.

One drawback here is that Amazon has not made the kindle’s generation info available easily – not until after the update has completely been rolled out. The best way to find out if your device is eligible and available for this update is to Google the model number. You can find this number at the back of your device.

The kindle interface is something that does not get refreshed regularly just like the readers E Ink displays. It’s just early this year that amazon added the feature to make the lock screen show the cover of the book you are reading. Ars Technica reports that the experimental label of the kindle web browser that has existed for almost 10 years is now gone according to GoodEReader.

When Will This Update Be Available To Devices

Generally, the update should install automatically on your kindle if it is connected to Wi-Fi. But if it doesn’t, you can manually update your device from a computer if you wish to get the new update quickly.
