An Amazon Kindle is an e-reader designed and marketed by Amazon. This device enables readers to browse, download, purchase, and read books online.

Not just eBooks, users can also read newspapers, magazines, and other digital media via this wireless networking device connected to the Kindle Store.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has commanded his staff in 2004 to build the world’s best e-reader before other competitors could. There are series of kindles produced from years back till date.

Also, Amazon introduced Kindle apps that can be used on other devices and platforms. Users on Windows, macOS, Android, iOS, BlackBerry, and Windows Phone. There is also a cloud reader created to allow users access to read e-books using the modern web browser.

Like said earlier, there are series of Kindle produced by Amazon. Here are some of the known Kindles made by Amazon to date:

First-generation Kindle:

This was released on the 19th of November, 2007. It costs about $399. This product has been in stock till late April 2008. It featured a six-inch four-level grayscale E Ink display. February 2009, Amazon created the Kindle 2

Contains 250MB of internal storage space and could hold approximately 200 non-illustrated titles. Comes with a speaker and a headphone jack in case users prefer audio listening.

Users can as well add an external storage card. And this device wasn’t sold outside the United States.

Second generation Kindle 2:

Later on, dated the 10th of February, 2009 Amazon created the Kindle 2 (Second generation Kindle). It features a text to speck option. Contains 2GB internal storage of which 1.4GB is accessible to its users.

It can contain 1,500 non-illustrated books, but it doesn’t contain an external storage slot.

On the 7th of October, 2009, Amazon later announced the International version of the Kindle 2. This upgrade contains the ability to download e-books wirelessly. It was released to over 100 countries.

The international version of the Kindle 2 uses a standard GSM and 3G GSM network connectivity. Allowing it to be used anywhere outside the US.

Kindle DX was later created under the second-generation Kindle. It contained more developed features and options. And has other of its series like the Kindle DX international ad the Kindle DX Graphite.

Third Generation Kindle Keyboard:

The third-generation Kindle was later renamed Kindle Keyboard. It was created on the 28th of July, 2010. Unlike the other Kindle, this device allows a 3G connection as well as a Wi-Fi connection.

Has an internal memory of 4GB, allowing users access to 3GB storage of it. There were two versions of it though; One which connects to the internet via Wi-Fi only. And the other includes both 3G and Wi-Fi.

Other Kindle Series

After these main Kindle were released. Amazon continued making more Kindle with developed upgrades. These Kindles includes:

  • Fourth-generation – Kindle 4, and Kindle Touch.
  • Fifth-generation – Kindle 5, and Kindle Paperwhite (first generation).
  • Sixth generation – Kindle Paperwhite (second generation).
  • Seventh generation – Kindle 7, Kindle Voyage, and Kindle Paperwhite (third generation).
  • Eight generation – Kindle Oasis (first generation), and Kindle 8.
  • Ninth generation – Kindle Oasis (second generation).
  • Tenth generation – Kindle Paperwhite (fourth generation), Kindle 10, and Kindle Oasis (third generation).

And there are more expected to come in the future.
