Warner Bros. Discovery is set to include Live Sports to Max Streaming Service. With that being said, it simply means that both live news and sporting events may just be finding their way to the platform sooner than originally expected.

In a bid to gain a competitive edge in the streaming industry, Warner Bros. Discovery is launching Max, which is its freshly rebranded service that reportedly merges content from HBO Max and Discovery Plus. And in addition to offering a slate of a host of new and existing titles from Warner, HBO, and Discovery, the firm is teasing a plan to include live sports and news to the streaming platform in the nearest future.

The News Was Shared During the Company’s Virtual Press Event

CEO David Zaslav shared the news during the virtual press event of the media company on Wednesday. The CEO said that Warner Bros. Discovery would disclose details in a couple of months. “We’re a global leader in sports. And we’re a global leader in news,” said Zaslav. “And in a few months, we’ll come back to you with details of our attack plan to use this important and differentiating live content to grow our streaming business even further.”

Both US men’s and women’s soccer already has been the only live sports offering on HBO Max, while Discovery Plus on the other hand has streamed athletic events across sports such as cycling, boxing, swimming, figure skating, and wrestling. The portfolio of Warner Bros. Discovery, however, includes ownership of TNT and TBS, which as you should know air content from the NHL, the NBA, and MLB.

The Effect of Offering Live Sports Coverage

Expanding its live sports coverage to the Max streaming platform could potentially attract new customers and subscribers who want to watch as much as they can on one single service. And with subscription plans ranging from $10 to $20 per month, Max may really sound appealing if the content gets to line up with fans. The service will however roll out to US customers on May 23.

The Competition for Streaming Sports Content

The competition for streaming sports content is continually growing. Apple TV Plus at the moment offers Major League Soccer and Friday Night Baseball from MLB. YouTube TV on the other hand just acquired the NFL’s Sunday Night Ticket, and streamers such as Prime Video and Paramount Plus also offer direct access to live NFL games.
