What Is the Kent Access to HE Ambition Scholarship All About?

The Kent Access to HE Ambition Scholarship is a financial support initiative aimed at students who have completed, or are currently completing, an Access to HE Diploma at the University of Kent or one of its partner colleges.

This scholarship provides £2,000 annually (pro-rata for part-time students) for up to four years, helping recipients cover study-related expenses such as books, transport, and daily living costs.

In addition to funding, recipients are invited to join the Kent Ambition Scholars Programme, which offers tailored support, mentoring, and opportunities to build employability skills throughout their academic journey.

Who Can Apply? (Eligibility Criteria)

To be eligible for the Kent Access to HE Ambition Scholarship 2026, applicants must:

  • Have completed or are completing an Access to HE Diploma at one of the following institutions:
    • University of Kent
    • Mid Kent College
    • West Kent College
    • EKC Group
    • Canterbury College
    • Ashford College
  • Be a UK home fee-paying student
  • Have applied for a full-time or part-time undergraduate programme
  • Have firmly accepted an offer from the University of Kent before 31 August 2026

Important:

  • If you are a former student, your Access to HE Diploma must be your most recent qualification
  • Students applying to Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) are not eligible

Priority Considerations

While all eligible applicants can apply, priority may be given to those who:

  • Live in areas of socio-economic deprivation (IMD Q1 or Q2)
  • Come from low-participation neighbourhoods (TUNDRA Q1 or Q2)
  • Are care leavers under 25
  • Are estranged from parents
  • Belong to Traveller, Showman, or Boater communities
  • Are first-generation university students
  • Have caring responsibilities
  • Live in supported accommodation

Final decisions may also involve consultation with the applicant’s FE college or institution.

Scholarship Benefits

Recipients of the Kent Access to HE Ambition Scholarship will receive the following:

  • £2,000 per year for up to four years of study
  • Financial support for both full-time and part-time students (pro rata)
  • Annual renewal based on satisfactory academic progress
  • Access to the Kent Ambition Scholars Programme
  • Opportunities to build career and employability skills
  • Invitations to apply for roles such as Student Ambassador

If a student repeats a year, the scholarship will be paused and resumed once progression continues.

Important Notes

  • You cannot receive both the Kent Access to HE Ambition Scholarship and the Kent Ambition to Succeed Scholarship
  • You may apply for multiple scholarships, but only one will be awarded
  • If you defer your admission, you must apply again in your year of entry (subject to availability)
