About the Baden-Württemberg Residency Program

This bilateral residency program for artists from Namibia is organized by Akademie Schloss Solitude in collaboration with the National Art Gallery of Namibia and the Goethe-Institut Namibia.

It is designed to foster cultural exchange between Namibia and Germany by integrating selected artists into the vibrant artistic and cultural communities of Baden-Württemberg.

In 2026, two Namibian artists will travel together to Germany for six months, providing mutual support and enriching cross-cultural experiences. In return, two German artists will later visit Namibia for a reciprocal fellowship.

Who Can Apply?

Eligible applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be Namibian nationals working professionally in any of the following areas:
    • Visual Arts
    • Performing Arts
    • Music and Sound
    • Literature
    • Design
    • Art Education
  • Be fluent in English
  • Be of any age group
  • Not currently enrolled in university or vocational training (PhD students excepted)

What Does the Fellowship Cover?

This fully funded artist residency in Germany includes:

  • A free, furnished studio apartment with electricity, water, and heating
  • A monthly stipend of €1,300
  • Travel expenses to and from Germany (one-time)
  • Project support and material funding of €2,000
  • Visa costs covered
  •  Health insurance during the residency
