About the University of Manchester Global Futures Scholarship

The Global Futures Scholarships are designed to recognise exceptional students who demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and a strong commitment to making a positive impact in their communities.

The awards are funded directly by the University of Manchester, reflecting its mission to empower global citizens and address today’s most pressing challenges, such as poverty eradication, social justice, environmental sustainability, and urban development.

Founded in 2004, the University of Manchester is one of the UK’s leading research universities, consistently ranked among the world’s best. It offers a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs across disciplines, including engineering, social sciences, business, medicine, and the humanities.

Eligibility Criteria for 2026 Global Futures Scholarships

Applicants must meet the following requirements to be considered:

  1. Country of Domicile: Must be a resident of one of the following African countries for at least the past three years:
    • Nigeria
    • Kenya
    • Ghana
    • Egypt
    • Botswana
    • Tanzania
    • Zimbabwe
    • South Africa
  2. Funding Status: Applicants must be self-funded and not sponsored by any external organization.
  3. Eligible Programs:
    • Undergraduate applicants must be applying for direct first-year entry in 2026 with one of the following qualifications: A-Levels, IB Diploma, South African NSC/IEB, or NCUK International Foundation Year.
    • Master’s applicants must hold an unconditional offer for a full-time, on-campus program beginning September 2026.
  4. Excluded Programs: Students applying for the following courses are not eligible:
    • Medicine (MBChB), Dentistry (BDS)
    • Architecture or foundation year courses
    • MBA, MPhil, MArch, MA in Architecture and Urbanism, MLA, PGCE
    • Clinical Medicine and Dentistry degrees
  5. Previous UK Study: Students who have already studied at a UK higher education institution are not eligible.
  6. Application Status:
    • Undergraduate applicants must select the University of Manchester as their firm UCAS choice by 25 May 2026.
    • Master’s applicants must submit the separate scholarship application form by 23 April 2026 (emailed to eligible candidates once an offer is received).

Scholarship Value and Duration

For Undergraduate Students

  • More than 100 awards available.
  • Each award is worth £30,000, distributed as £10,000 per year for three years.
  • Renewal is conditional on maintaining at least a 60% average each year.
  • Scholarship is applied as a tuition fee discount.

For Master’s Students

  • More than 200 awards available.
  • Each award is worth £18,000, applied as a tuition fee discount.
  • Selection is based on academic excellence and the strength of responses in the scholarship application form.

How to Apply for the University of Manchester Global Futures Scholarship 2026

1 – Apply for Admission

Submit your application for either an undergraduate or master’s program at the University of Manchester.

2 – Receive an Offer

Eligible applicants who receive an academic offer will be contacted automatically with a link to the online scholarship application form.

  • Undergraduate Applications: The form will be sent after December 2025.
  • Master’s Applications: Applicants must already hold an unconditional offer by 24 April 2026.

3 – Complete the Scholarship Application

Fill in and submit the scholarship application form by the specified deadline:

  • Undergraduate: 9 April 2026
  • Master’s: 23 April 2026

4 – Notification of Results

  • Undergraduate results announced by 18 May 2026.
  • Master’s results announced by 29 May 2026.
