Who Is Eligible – Key Criteria

To qualify for the LSHTM + GSK Scholarship for 2026–27, you must:

  1. Be a citizen and resident of a sub-Saharan African country.
  2. Intend to return to sub-Saharan Africa after completing your MSc — the scholarship is designed to benefit African health systems.
  3. Demonstrate financial need — that you would not otherwise be able to fund the proposed programme.
  4. Meet LSHTM’s minimum English language requirement (standard for admission).
  5. Hold a first degree with first-class or upper second-class equivalency.
  6. Have an offer of admission for one of LSHTM’s London-based intensive MSc programmes for the 2026–27 academic year.

Preference is often given to applicants showing strong potential to contribute to public health and research in Africa after graduation.

FAQs

Is the scholarship only for one specific MSc course?

No. The scholarship is open to any of LSHTM’s eligible full-time, London-based intensive MSc programmes (excluding certain joint/distance-learning programmes).

Do I need to take IELTS for English language proficiency?

You must meet LSHTM’s standard English-language requirement. There is no separate IELTS waiver mentioned beyond that — so follow LSHTM’s English proficiency rules.

Is the stipend enough to live in London for one year?

The stipend is £22,000 (tax-free). While London is expensive, many scholarship recipients consider this sufficient to cover living costs if budgeted carefully.
