It’s usually an exciting prospect to pursue an education abroad, and the Chinese Government Scholarship is inviting suitably qualified South African Students to have that experience by applying to pursue a study program for the 2024/25 academic year.
The Chinese Government Scholarship program covers diverse academic pursuits, including undergraduate studies in identified scarce skills, postgraduate studies (Masters or PhD), and non-degree Chinese language studies.
Candidates should note that the bachelor’s degree scholarships are taught in Chinese. Hence, the scholarship will only be awarded to those with Chinese proficiency (HSK 4 or above).
Chinese Government Scholarship – Benefits
The following benefits are provided by the South African Government subject to the availability of funds:
- One return economy airfare
- A monthly stipend
- A settlement allowance
- Research funding (for postgraduate studies)
- Visa costs, and;
- A compulsory orientation program before departure.
- Successful applicants are not only scholars but ambassadors. They must commit to returning to South Africa upon completing their studies, to foster a connection between nations.
Chinese Government Scholarship – Eligibility Criteria
- Eligible nationality: South Africa
- They must be in good health
- They must posses a robust academic record boasting a minimum 65% average in previous studies.
- Demonstrated interest in China and a commitment to South Africa’s development are non-negotiables,
- The program welcomes applications in all fields of study except medicine
- Prospective Candidates must meet the minimum academic requirements for entry into a similar programme at a South African university;
- Applicants who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s program must have HSK 4 level language certificate and be willing to study in Chinese
- Applications without a HSK level 4 language certificate will be disqualified automatically.

How to Apply
Candidates who meets the above stated criteria, should carefully follow the steps below to apply:
Step 1: Go to http://www.campuschina.org and click “Scholarship Application for Students” to create an account and login
Step 2: Tap on “Edit Personal Details” and enter the required Personal Details.
Step 3: Then choose your preferred program from the “Program Category”(select category “Type A”)
Step 4: Enter the Agency Number (7101)
Step 5: Navigate to the “Language Proficiency and Study Plan” section and upload required documents
Step 6: Click “Submit” to complete the application. It’s Important to note that once submitted, amendment cannot be made on “Personal Details” and “Application Information”.
Step 7: The next step is to click “Print the Application Form” button and download the form.
Step 8: Application Submission (to be made under the requirements of the dispatching authorities or application processing agency)
