About the Luce Scholars Program

The Luce Scholars Program provides recent graduates, young professionals, and advanced students the chance to live and work in Asia in a field related to their career interests. It is not an academic program but a cultural immersion and professional placement experience aimed at expanding global leadership and understanding.

Luce Scholars are placed in government agencies, NGOs, academic institutions, media organisations, and businesses across Asia, selected according to their background and aspirations. Prior knowledge of Asian languages or cultures is not required and, in fact, applicants with limited experience in Asia are preferred.

Aim and Benefits

Successful applicants to the Luce Scholars Program receive:

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Be under 32 years old by July 1, 2026, OR have earned a bachelor’s degree within the past three years if older than 32
  • Hold at least a bachelor’s degree before the fellowship begins
  • Have limited exposure to Asia (no more than 18 weeks in total since high school)
  • Not having majored in Asian Studies or Asian Languages (though some recent coursework is now allowed)
  • Demonstrate academic excellence, leadership potential, and strong communication and character
  • Financial need is not considered in the selection process

  2. Two Letters of Recommendation
