Eligibility Criteria

To qualify, applicants must:

  1. Be matriculated undergraduates at UW (Bothell, Seattle, or Tacoma) pursuing a bachelor’s degree.
  2. Be enrolled full-time (12+ credits) during the award period (not necessarily during the application quarter).
  3. Be actively involved in a leadership project throughout the award period.
  4. Enroll in at least one credit during the Summer quarter if chosen as one of the award quarters.
  5. Have not received more than two Mary Gates Scholarships of the same type (Leadership or Research).
  6. May apply for a second Leadership Scholarship if previously awarded once, but will be evaluated more rigorously.
  7. Remain engaged with their mentor and leadership activity throughout the duration of the scholarship.

Recipients of the Mary Gates Leadership Scholarship must:

  • Stay actively involved with the leadership project and maintain regular contact with their mentor.
  • Be enrolled full-time during the quarters in which the award is disbursed (12 credits; 1 credit for Summer).
