About DESOPADEC and the Bursary Scheme

Established in 2007 under the administration of former Governor Chief James Onanefe Ibori, DESOPADEC was created to address the development concerns of oil-producing communities in Delta State. The Commission is funded by 50% of the 13% oil derivation revenue allocated to the state and focuses on infrastructure, youth empowerment, and socioeconomic schemes such as the bursary program.

The bursary scheme is a key component of DESOPADEC’s mission to boost tertiary education enrollment, reduce student dropout rates, and equip communities with a skilled future workforce.

What’s New in 2025?

The 2025 edition of the bursary program includes several enhancements aimed at transparency and ease of access. According to DESOPADEC Managing Director, Chief Festus Ochonogor, the Commission has put in place:

  • A dedicated bursary application portal
  • Stronger stakeholder engagement

These efforts aim to ensure a smooth, fair, and efficient disbursement process.
