The British Academy International Fellowships 2024 application is out. The International Fellowships Programme offers support to exceptional early career researchers seeking to advance their independent research careers by gaining global experience.
Each award is anticipated to center on a focused and protected research agenda, with the recipient conducting high-quality, original research. This initiative is a joint effort between the British Academy and the Royal Society.
The primary goal of the International Fellowships Programme is to draw and retain emerging talent in the UK while cultivating a globally connected, mobile research and innovation workforce. The objectives are as follows:
- Attract skilled early career researchers from around the world to come and carry out their research in the United Kingdom. Support early career researchers in pursuing high-quality and innovative research endeavors.
- Provide opportunities for acquiring and transferring new skills and knowledge through training and career development.
- Cultivate long-term relationships through networking opportunities and the International Fellowships alumni programme.
Award
- The International Fellowships provide two years of support at 80% full economic cost (FEC). Candidates can request research expenses of up to £12,000 and relocation costs of up to £8,000. Justification for the requested level of research expenses and relocation costs will be required in the application.
- Applicants may qualify for follow-on Alumni funding after completing their Fellowship to facilitate networking activities with UK-based or international researchers.
Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must:
- Hold a PhD, or applicants in the final stages of their PhD will be considered as long as the degree is completed (including viva) before the start date of the Fellowship. Confirmation of the PhD award will be necessary before confirming any Fellowship award.
- Have no more than seven years of active full-time postdoctoral experience at the time of application (excluding career breaks, but including teaching experience and/or time spent in industry).
- Be employed outside of the UK.
- Not possess UK citizenship.
- Demonstrate proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Present a clearly defined and mutually beneficial research proposal approved by a UK host researcher.
