About the Scholarship

The Siddall Sheffield Scholarship was made possible by a generous endowment from Dr. Graham Siddall and Mrs. Brenda Siddall. The award is valued at approximately £50,000 and reflects their commitment to academic excellence, technical innovation, and civic contribution.

Dr. Siddall, originally from Sheffield, had an accomplished career in precision engineering and instrumentation after earning degrees from the University of Nottingham and the University of Aberdeen. Mrs. Siddall also built a distinguished academic career at Stanford Medical School. Their philanthropic efforts now support aspiring engineers in their home city of Sheffield.

Eligibility Criteria of Siddall Sheffield Scholarship 2026

To qualify for the 2026 Siddall Sheffield Scholarship, applicants must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen, a non-UK resident, and have not previously lived in the UK.
  • Have completed an undergraduate degree in a relevant field before traveling to the UK.
  • Hold a minimum GPA of 3.7 (preferred).
  • Gain acceptance to a one-year full-time Master’s programme in the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Sheffield.

Application Process

  • Deadline: Submit your application by Tuesday, 13 January 2026 at 5:00 PM (UK time).
  • Reference Letter: Include an academic reference from a faculty member in your chosen department. The letter must confirm that you have discussed your proposed research with them and that they endorse your application.
  • Shortlisting: Selected candidates will be invited for an online interview in early March 2026.
  • Final Decision: Successful applicants will be notified by Tuesday, 31 March 2026.

Selection Criteria

Applications will be assessed based on the following weighted criteria:

  • Academic Merit (50%)
    Demonstrated through academic transcripts and personal statement. Applicants must show a strong record of achievement and commitment to technical innovation.
  • Research Contribution (25%)
    Assessed through a 500-word project proposal outlining the applicant’s intended research area within the Faculty of Engineering.
  • Civic Engagement (25%)
    Demonstrated via a 500-word essay describing the applicant’s community involvement. Applicants should outline how they plan to positively impact the Sheffield community, drawing on past experience such as volunteering, service work, or extracurricular engagement.
