What the Scholarship Covers

NYCU’s new-student scholarship may include two main forms of support:

  • A monthly stipend
  • A tuition scholarship, which may be a tuition waiver or reduction

These benefits may be awarded separately or together. Therefore, applicants should not assume that every recipient will receive both a stipend and a full tuition waiver.

A tuition waiver generally covers basic tuition and credit fees. It may not cover accommodation, insurance, campus fees, transportation, food or other personal expenses. The waiver also does not cover the summer semester.

The current Spring 2027 scholarship listing does not guarantee a fixed monthly stipend for every recipient. Students should rely on the official scholarship decision rather than amounts published by unofficial websites.

Newly admitted students may also need to wait approximately six to eight weeks after completing registration procedures before receiving their first stipend payment. Applicants should prepare enough money to cover their initial expenses in Taiwan.

Who Can Apply?

The official scholarship system identifies the eligible applicants as foreign students. Applicants must also meet the admission requirements of their chosen NYCU programme.

For Spring 2027, NYCU currently lists the international degree-seeking intake for graduate programmes. Prospective master’s and doctoral students should carefully review the requirements of their department or institute before applying.

Meeting the basic eligibility requirements does not guarantee a scholarship. Applications are reviewed by the university, and awards depend on academic qualifications, programme requirements, available funding and the number of applicants.

Important Admission and Scholarship Deadlines

Applicants should distinguish between the admission deadline and the scholarship deadline.

Event Date
Admission and scholarship applications open August 10, 2026
International admission deadline September 30, 2026, at 11:59 a.m. Taiwan time
Scholarship application deadline November 13, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.
Admission results November 13, 2026
Scholarship result November 14, 2026

The admission deadline comes before the scholarship deadline. Students should therefore complete the admission application by September 30 rather than waiting until November.

Do Not Confuse the Two Spring 2027 Scholarships

NYCU lists separate scholarship opportunities for new and current international students.

The 2027 Spring NYCU International Students Scholarship is for eligible current NYCU students whose existing scholarship period is ending. Its application period is listed as July 15 to September 15, 2026, and its award period runs from March 2027 to February 2028.

The Spring 2027 NYCU New Students Scholarship is for foreign students applying to begin their studies at NYCU. Its application period runs from August 10 to November 13, 2026.

Students applying to NYCU for the first time should select the New Students Scholarship option.

How to Apply

New students must apply for the scholarship together with their NYCU admission application.

  1. Choose an eligible programme. Review the Spring 2027 programmes and select one that matches your academic background and career goals.
  2. Prepare the required documents. These may include academic transcripts, certificates, identification documents, recommendation letters, a study plan and, for graduate applicants, a research proposal. Requirements vary by department.
  3. Apply through the NYCU admission system. Complete the online application and upload all required documents.
  4. Select the scholarship option. In the scholarship section, choose “Apply for NYCU Scholarship.”
  5. Submit before the admission deadline. The application must be completed by September 30, 2026, at 11:59 a.m. Taiwan time.
  6. Monitor your application account and email. NYCU uses its official admission and scholarship channels to communicate decisions and additional instructions.

The scholarship result is included in the admission notification. For the Spring 2027 intake, the scholarship result is scheduled for November 14, 2026.

What Happens After Selection?

Scholarship recipients must complete university registration and other required procedures before payments can be processed. Where applicable, students may need to obtain an Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) and open a Post Office account in Taiwan for scholarship payments.

Because the first stipend may take six to eight weeks to arrive, students should budget for tuition-related charges, accommodation, food, transportation, insurance and other initial costs.

Receiving the scholarship as a new student also does not mean that the award will automatically continue throughout the entire degree. Renewal depends on academic performance, university regulations, committee review and available funding.

NYCU currently states that undergraduate students generally need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0, while graduate students generally need at least 3.5 for scholarship renewal. Meeting the minimum does not guarantee renewal.

Chinese-Language Requirement

NYCU scholarship recipients are subject to Chinese-language course requirements.

  • Undergraduate scholarship recipients generally need to complete at least four Mandarin courses, while graduate scholarship recipients generally need to complete at least two Mandarin courses.
  • Students with qualifying prior Chinese-language study may be eligible for an exemption. NYCU lists TOCFL Level 2 or higher, among other acceptable evidence, as a possible basis for exemption.
  • A passing result from the NYCU Chinese Language Center placement test may also satisfy the scholarship requirement.
  • Applicants should check whether their department has additional language requirements for graduation.

Tips for a Strong Application

  • Apply early and do not wait for the scholarship deadline. Since admission closes on September 30, applicants should begin preparing documents well in advance.
  • Research your department carefully and explain how your academic background, research interests and career plans fit the programme. Graduate applicants should prepare a clear study or research plan.
  • Ensure that all documents are complete, readable and submitted in the required format. Applicants should also avoid relying on unofficial websites that promise a guaranteed stipend or describe the scholarship as fully funded.
  • Even if you receive tuition support and a monthly stipend, you may still need to pay for accommodation, insurance, food, transportation and other expenses.
