This award is designed to support postgraduate students pursuing a master’s degree in art history or archaeology with a focus on Mongolia, including studies related to the Mongol Empire.

About the Award
This scholarship was established in recognition of the growing academic interest in Mongolian studies. It supports students undertaking taught master’s programmes within the Department of History of Art and Archaeology at SOAS with a specific focus on Mongolian art history or archaeology. One scholarship will be awarded, covering full tuition fees for eligible UK Home fee students.
Eligible Programmes
Applicants must be enrolled in one of the following:
- Any taught master’s degree offered by the Department of History of Art and Archaeology with a focus on Mongolia.
Not Eligible:
- Online Learning programmes
- Pre-sessional or short courses
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Hold UK Home fee status
- Be a newly admitted student beginning a taught MA in 2025/26
- Focus their research on Mongolian art and/or archaeology, including the Mongol Empire
- Have an unconditional offer by the time of scholarship decision
- Preference may be given to candidates with relevant academic or professional experience
Selection Process
All candidates will be evaluated by a selection panel based on:
- Academic performance
- Personal statement (submitted for the scholarship)
- Work or research experience
- Supporting documents from the admission application
Late or incomplete submissions will not be considered.

Apply to an eligible MA programme in the Department of History of Art and Archaeology for the 2025/26 academic year. Programme information is available on the SOAS website.
Step 2: Submit Scholarship Application
Send a statement of purpose (PDF, max 600 words) by 14 August 2025 to scholarships@soas.ac.uk.
Your statement should:
- Explain your academic interest in Mongolian art or archaeology
- Outline your career plans and how the award would support your goals
- Address how you meet the eligibility criteria
