You Can Now Relocate the Address Bar to the Bottom in Chrome on iOS

Google is making a design change for Chrome, similar to what Apple did for Safari two years ago.

Google’s Chrome browser on iOS officially introduces the option to relocate the address bar from the top of the screen to the bottom, as announced by the search giant. This feature was initially identified in a beta version of the browser earlier this year, but it is now widely available. I can access this feature on my phone without needing to update my browser.

This is an optional change, and based on my own Chrome app, the default setting keeps the address bar at the top. However, if you prefer to move it to the bottom, you can achieve this by using the “address bar” option in the Settings menu or by long-pressing on the bar itself and selecting “move address bar to bottom.

Enhancing Browsing Comfort: Google’s iOS Address Bar Update

Google is officially introducing this option a couple of years after Apple added a similar feature to its Safari browser in iOS 15. Although the change initially sparked controversy among some users, I’ve come to really appreciate it.

I even actively dislike any mobile browser that forces me to keep the address bar at the top of the screen. Not having to stretch my thumbs to the top of the screen just to type in a URL or (more frequently) a Google search term feels much more comfortable to me. If you’ve had reservations about this feature in the past, I recommend giving it another try for a couple of weeks to see if it suits your preferences.

While Google has tested allowing Chrome users to relocate the address bar on Android before, today’s announcement only applies to the iOS version of the browser. Let’s hope this situation changes soon.
