This event acknowledges outstanding businesses and individuals who effectively utilize intellectual property for commercialization while also making positive contributions to society through innovation and creativity.

This yearly competition is open to applicants from WIPO’s 193 Member States and spans diverse economic sectors. Originally catering to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), a new category for startups was introduced in 2024, with plans for additional categories in future editions.


  • Prizes include international promotion, recognition, and visibility through various platforms for both finalists and winners.
  • Winners have the opportunity to attend the awards ceremony and other networking events in Geneva, Switzerland, with covered travel expenses.
  • Additionally, winners benefit from a personalized mentorship program.

This empowering mentoring program enables winners to:

    • Boost the utilization of intellectual property (IP) for effective commercialization.
    • Establish and foster new commercial partnerships for enhanced business growth.
    • Facilitate access to crucial financial resources vital for sustained innovation and development.


For SMEs:

  • Open to SMEs in WIPO’s 193 Member States.
  • Must be a registered business entity with proof of registration.
  • Up to 300 employees and up to $15 million in total annual sales.
  • Holder of at least one registered IP right.
  • Exporting products or services to at least one country.

For Startups:

  • Open to startups in WIPO’s 193 Member States.
  • A registered business entity with a legal existence of no more than three years (proof of registration required).
  • Up to 50 employees.
  • Innovative product or service associated with IP rights.
  • Submitted at least one IP right registration application or holder of at least one registered IP right.
  • Affiliated with a business support organization (proof required).
  • Affirmed engagement with at least one commercial customer, completed a business sale, or secured one investor.
