In an interview with ITWeb Africa, Madalitso Jonazi, TNM’s head of brand and marketing, highlighted the detrimental impact of mobile money fraud on both individuals and businesses, emphasizing the need for proactive measures to safeguard customers’ interests.

As mobile operators increasingly expand into the financial services sector to cater to the unbanked population and simplify transactions through mobile money, instances of fraud have emerged, undermining the trust and reliability of mobile money services.

Jonazi explained that the Sim Swap Exemption feature is TNM’s strategic response to mitigate the risk of fraud and enhance customer protection.

He said: “Our customers will be able to protect their numbers from unwanted SIM replacements, with this customers will be able to have maximum security as no SIM swap transaction will be completed without the customer giving their own consent.”

Restoring Customer Confidence

With this feature, customers gain control over their mobile numbers, preventing unauthorized SIM replacements and ensuring maximum security. Every SIM swap transaction requires explicit consent from the customer, adding an extra layer of security against fraudulent activities.

TNM aims to restore customer confidence in mobile money services by proactively addressing security concerns and empowering users to safeguard their accounts.

The introduction of Sim Swap Exemption reflects TNM’s commitment to innovation and customer-centric solutions in the fight against mobile money fraud in Malawi.
