The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – Guyana and Suriname 2024 (over $50,000 CAD)

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives (CFLI) in Guyana and Suriname for 2024 is currently open for applications, offering funding of over CAD 50,000 for small-scale, high-impact projects. The CFLI supports projects aligned with Global Affairs Canada’s thematic priority areas for engagement and encourages initiatives conceived and designed by local partners.

The Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – Guyana and Suriname

The CFLI aims to deepen contacts and support local endeavors to foster positive bilateral relations between Canada and recipient countries, along with their civil societies.

Thematic Priorities for Projects Include

  1. Inclusive governance, encompasses diversity, democracy, human rights, and the rule of law.
  2. Peace and security, with a focus on conflict prevention and building peace.
  3. Gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
  4. Human dignity, covering health, education, and nutrition.
  5. Growth that works for everyone, including women’s economic rights, decent jobs, entrepreneurship, investing in the poorest and most vulnerable, and safeguarding economic gains.
  6. Environment and climate action, focusing on adaptation and mitigation, as well as water management.

Funding Details

  • The average CFLI contribution is $20,000 to 50,000 Canadian Dollars.

Eligible recipients include

  1. Local, national, or community-based organizations (non-governmental and not-for-profit).
  2. Local municipal, regional, or national government institutions or agencies of the recipient country.
  3. Local academic institutions.
  4. Canadian organizations (non-governmental or not-for-profit) working on local development activities.
  5. International or regional organizations (non-governmental or not-for-profit) working on local development activities.
  6. Intergovernmental or multilateral institutions, organizations, or agencies working on local development activities.

Key Application Requirements

  • All projects must be completed between the date of the signature of the Contribution Agreement and February 28, 2025.
  • The deadline for submission is March 8, 2024, at 23:59 (GMT-4).
