<p>These rules affect <strong>all</strong> schools above and any study permit / dependent / PGWP application you make:</p>
<ul>
<li>As of <strong>September</strong>, the proof of funds requirement increased: one applicant must show <strong>CAD 22,895</strong> per year to cover living expenses, etc.</li>
<li>On <strong>January 21, 2026</strong>, IRCC changed open work permit (OWP) eligibility for spouses/common-law partners of international students. Only spouses of students in <strong>master’s programs ≥ 16 months</strong>, <strong>doctoral programs</strong>, or select professional/eligible programs qualify.</li>
<li>Dependent children are <em>no longer eligible</em> for open work permits under the family member rules.</li>
<li>PGWP eligibility changed: some college/diploma programs require that the student’s program be in an eligible field of study. Also, distance learning, part-time final semesters, etc.</li>
