Funded by the Faculty of Graduate & Postdoctoral Studies (GPS), these awards help students disseminate research results and deepen their academic experience through national or international travel.

This opportunity is available once per graduate program (Master’s or PhD), and funding is limited. Applications are competitive, processed on a first-come, first-served basis, and must be complete and submitted through GSMS before deadlines.

Purpose of the Travel Award

The Graduate Travel Award is designed to support:

• Conference participation: Presenting a paper or poster, exhibiting work, or joining a panel.
• Research travel: Engaging in academic research activities outside the university.

Note: Students may only apply for one of the two categories (conference OR research travel) during their graduate program.

 Eligibility Requirements

To qualify, applicants must meet the following:

• Be registered full-time in their program (at time of application and travel).
• Have a GPA of 2.7 or higher (based on last 15 graded credits in current program).
• Be actively participating in the event — observing alone is not eligible.
• One award per program (Master’s or Doctoral), not both.

Additional Criteria:

For Master’s Students

• Must have completed at least 2 full-time terms and no more than 4 years in the program.
• Course-based students must be registered full-time in Fall and Winter terms.

For Doctoral Students

• Must have completed candidacy exams and be actively engaged in thesis research.
• Cannot exceed 6 years in the program.

Application Windows by Travel Date

Applications must be complete and submitted before the departure date.

Award Value

• The award amount is variable, up to a maximum of CAD $2,000.
• Based on actual travel costs submitted by the student in the application.

1. Can I apply if I’m attending multiple conferences?

No. Only one event per application is permitted. Multiple events will result in a rejected submission.

You must meet the eligibility criteria of your current program at both the time of application and travel.

No. Funding is limited and distributed first-come, first-served. Submitting early with a complete application increases your chances.
