Overview of the Quebec Skilled Worker Program

The Quebec Skilled Worker Program is managed by the Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francization, and Integration (MIFI). It is a points-based immigration system designed to select candidates who have the skills and abilities to contribute to the Quebec labor market and integrate successfully into Quebec society.

Key Features of the Quebec Skilled Worker Program

Points system

  • As an applicant, you will be assessed based on a points system, where points will be awarded to you for factors such as your education, work experience, age, language proficiency, and other criteria.

Expression of interest (EOI)

  • The QSWP operates on an Expression of Interest system, this means that if you are interested in immigrating to Quebec through this program, you need to submit an online profile indicating your qualifications and intentions to settle in Quebec.

Selection Factors

  • You will get your point from factors such as education, work experience, language proficiency (French and English), age, job offer, and adaptability.

Education

  • If you have a higher level of education, it will give you more points but before that happens, your education credential must be assessed and recognized by the appropriate authorities.

Work Experience

  • If you have work experience in a recognized occupation, it will be an added advantage and you will get more points if your work experience is relevant to the needed field.

Language Proficiency

  • In this program, proficiency in French is highly valued, and points are awarded for language abilities in both French and English. You may need to take language tests, such as TEF or IELTS.

Adaptability

  • You will also gain more points for factors such as having a close family member in Quebec, previous work or study experience in Quebec, or a job offer from a Quebec employer.

Job offer

  • Getting a job offer is not mandatory here but if you have one, it will add more points to you and increase your chances.

Processing Times

  • The processing times for the QSWP can be lengthy. Once an application is submitted, it goes through several stages, including initial review, interview, and medical and security checks.

Intake Periods

  • The QSWP periodically opens its intake for new applications. You must submit your Expression of Interest when the intake period is active.

If you meet the eligibility criteria and have a competitive score, you will be invited to apply for a Quebec Selection Certificate (Certificat de sélection du Québec or CSQ).
