The Academy, in collaboration with the Open Society University Network, is seeking to host a fellow for a short-term, four-month fellowship running from October 2024 to January 2025 within the Global Economy and Finance Programme.

This fellowship opportunity is designed for individuals in the early to mid-stages of their careers and offers them the chance to spend four months at Chatham House engaging with a research programme and enhancing their leadership capabilities and thematic expertise.

Open Society University Network Academy Fellowships 2024-2025

Academy Fellows come from diverse backgrounds such as government, research, academia, civil society, and journalism, and are in the early to mid-phases of their careers. They are dedicated to identifying evidence-based solutions to global challenges and exhibit exceptional potential as emerging leaders in their respective countries, regions, or globally.

Fellows are urged to align their proposals with Chatham House’s mission, values, and objectives, focusing on the research program specified. The research proposals should aim to directly contribute to the following topics under the Global Economy and Finance Programme:

  • Exploring whether the dominance of the US dollar is waning and exploring methods to measure shifts in the global currency power distribution.
  • Considering ways to enhance the effectiveness and legitimacy of the global economic governance system.

Benefits

Benefits for Academy Fellows include:

  • A monthly stipend of £2,365 to cover living expenses in London, encompassing accommodation, utilities, food, transport, and other essential costs.
  • Support for various expenses, such as relocation (flights, train tickets to/from the UK, accommodation for three nights, visas, additional luggage, etc.).
  • Coverage of the UK’s Immigration Healthcare Surcharge for access to the National Health Service (Note: dental, optical treatments and prescribed medicines may incur extra charges).
  • Support for various activities including research funding, outreach initiatives, and dissemination efforts such as conducting fieldwork, travel for professional purposes, attending conferences, publishing work, organizing roundtable discussions, and hosting events.
  • Access to the Academy Leadership Programme offering workshops, seminars, events, media training, career coaching, writing assistance, and networking opportunities with Chatham House staff, the Academy’s faculty, and alumni.
  • Membership to Chatham House upon successful completion of the fellowship.

Eligibility criteria

The ideal candidate should:

  • Be associated with an Open Society University Network (OSUN) institution.
  • Possesses experience in conducting independent research and holds a bachelor’s or master’s degree. Or have relevant professional training or equivalent experience in the related field.
  • Demonstrate a suitable background with expertise in the proposed research area, highlighted in a comprehensive CV.
  • Exhibit proven leadership skills or potential.
  • Display dedication to the Chatham House’s mission, goals, and values, and a commitment to identifying evidence-based solutions to global challenges.
  • Explain clearly how the fellowship will equip them with the necessary resources and opportunities to create a positive influence. In line with the objectives of Chatham House and the broader goals of the Academy Fellowships program. This includes detailing how their involvement will contribute to and resonate with the institution’s core mission.
  • Show enthusiasm for the fellowship and commitment to meeting all its requirements. And readiness to leverage the networks and events. And opportunities provided at Chatham House.
  • Have a proficient command of spoken English.
