MTN Foundation Scholarship Program for Nigerian Students In Details

MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)

Since 2010, the organization has been running a flagship program for eligible 300-level students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions, such as universities, polytechnics, and colleges of education, who are pursuing science and technology-related courses. The program awards scholarships worth N200,000 annually to 300 students, provided they maintain a minimum grade requirement, which will be continued until graduation.

Scholarship Benefits

  • 300 students will receive scholarships throughout their academic journey as long as they fulfil the necessary grade criteria. Commencing in 2024, the annual scholarship sum has been raised from N200,000 to N300,000.

Eligibility Requirements for MTN Foundation Science and Technology Scholarship (STS)

Institution of Study

  • The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is available to Nigerian students enrolled in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (such as Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). As of 2024, the number of blind students awarded scholarships has been increased from 60 to 100.
  • The yearly scholarship amount has also been raised from N200,000 to N300,000 and will continue to be awarded until graduation provided that grade requirements are met.

Course of Study

  • The MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (STS) is open to 300 level students pursuing Science & and; Technology courses in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).
  • The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is available to 200 & 300 level blind students studying any course in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education).

Level of Study

  • The application is open to students who have completed their second-semester 200-level examinations and are progressing to the 300. As well as students currently in their 300 level, acknowledging variations in academic calendars across public tertiary institutions.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

  • Students in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields within Public Universities and Colleges of Education must maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5 (second-class upper credit).
  • STEM Students in Public Polytechnics should have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have secured admission into the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.
  • The MTN Scholarships program requires Direct Entry level STEM students to have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 (upper credit) from their OND program and have gained admission to the 300 level/3rd year in a Public University.

MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)

Since 2012, the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students has supported eligible 200 and 300 level blind students from Nigerian public tertiary institutions. Starting in 2024, the program will expand to support 100 students, a 67% increase, and will provide an annual award of N300,000 to each recipient, up from N200,000. The scholarship will be awarded until graduation, as long as the recipients meet their academic grade requirements.

Scholarship Benefits

  • Sixty students who are blind will receive scholarships worth N200,000 each year until they graduate, as long as they meet the academic requirements and maintain good grades.

Eligibility Criteria For MTN Foundation Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS)

Institution of Study

  • The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) is available to Nigerian students. Enrolled in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (such as Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education). Commencing in 2024, the number of blind students awarded scholarships has been raised from 60 to 100.

Course of Study

  • Blind students at the 200 and 300 levels in Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (including Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education) are eligible for the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (SBS) regardless of their field of study.

Level of Study

  • The scholarship application is open to blind students at the 200 and 300 levels in any Nigerian Public Tertiary Institutions (Universities, Polytechnics, and Colleges of Education), however, for blind students pursuing a 5-year Law program. Only 300 level students are eligible to apply for the MTN Scholarship.

Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA)

  • Blind students in Universities or Colleges of Education must maintain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.5.
  • Blind students in Public Polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) Program and must have gained admission to the Higher National Diploma (HND) Program.

Top 10 UTME Scholarship

Since 2020, the top 10 scorers in the UTME exam, as announced by JAMB. Have automatically qualified for the Top 10 UTME Scholarship. This scholarship financially supports these students from their 100 level to graduation as long as they meet the required academic grades. As of 2024, the annual scholarship award has increased to N300,000. The scholarship is open to all top 10 scorers, regardless of their chosen course of study or the institution they attend – public or private – in Nigeria.

Scholarship Benefit

  • Scholarship recipients will receive financial support from their 100-level studies to graduation, provided they meet the academic requirements. As of 2024, the annual award amount has increased from N200,000 to N300,000.

Eligibility Criteria For MTN Foundation Top 10 UTME Scholarship

  • To be considered, the candidate must have achieved a top 10 ranking in the 2024 UTME (Universities Tertiary Matriculation Examination) scores announced by JAMB (Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board).
