Call for Applications is now Open for the KAAD Scholarship Programme 2024. The Scholarship is presented by the Catholic Academic Exchange Service commonly referred to as KAAD, to eligible postgraduates and academics from developing countries across Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, and Eastern and South-Eastern Europe.

KAAD Scholarship Programme

The origin of the Catholic Academic Exchange Service (KAAD) is rooted in a rich history dating back to the 1950s, where it emerged from a visionary initiative of the German Catholic Congress held in Fulda in 1954.

Since its formal registration as a non-profit association in 1958, KAAD has been dedicated to promoting international dialogue and cooperation in the pursuit of academic excellence and holistic development.

KAAD Scholarship Programme Details

The KAAD Scholarship Programme is a  commitment to nurturing future leaders, thinkers, and change-makers. Through a combination of holistic approaches Including scholarships, educational events, and personalized spiritual guidance, KAAD empowers its scholarship holders to pave the way for positive change in their home countries.

The Scholarship Program is designed for postgraduates and academics with prior professional experience in their home countries. The program focuses on postgraduate studies or research stays in Germany.

Benefits of the KAAD Scholarship Programme

Scholars awarded the KAAD Germany scholarships under S1 are entitled to a full support package, including:

  • Assistance with Visa formalities
  • Accommodation
  • Flights to and from Germany
  • Language training in Germany before commencing their studies.

Eligibility Requirements

To be considered for the esteemed KAAD Germany Scholarship, prospective candidates must meet the requirements below:

  • Origin: Candidates must hail from a developing or emerging country in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, or Latin America.
  • Education & Experience: Have obtained a university degree and professional experience from their home country.
  • Academic Pursuits: Have plans or intentions to pursue a master’s degree or a Ph.D. at a German university or engage in a post-doctoral research project at a German university.
  • Religious Affiliation: Preference is given to Catholic Christians. However, candidates from other Christian denominations or religions may apply if recommended by Catholic partners.
  • Language Proficiency: Proficiency in the German language before the commencement of studies (KAAD offers a language course of up to six months in Germany).

Selection Criteria

KAAD’s selection process is guided by a commitment to nurturing excellence within its scholar community.

Preference is given to Catholic applicants, however, there is also a limited allocation for Protestant Christians, Orthodox Christians (especially from Ethiopia), and Muslims.

Catholic priests and religious individuals are eligible for scholarships in rare cases, provided they meet stringent criteria.
