The Hon’ble Prime Minister of India announced the Government of India’s initiative to improve the academic opportunities for students of African countries in India by increasing the number of scholarships for them to pursue undergraduate, postgraduate, and higher courses at the inaugural plenary of the India-Africa Forum Summit held in New Delhi in April 2008.

Benefits of ICCR Undergraduate Scholarship

  • Monthly living allowance (stipend)
  • 5,500 for undergraduates and 6,000 for postgraduates. Ph.D. / Phil 7,000, 7,500 Post-doctoral Fellows
  • Monthly Allowance for House Rent
  • Up to 5,000 for students in Grade 1 cities and 4,500 in other cities
  • Annual Contingent Grant
  • Undergraduate: 5,000, Graduate: 7,000, Postdoctoral: 15,500, M/Phil/PhD and M.Tech/ME: 12,50, Tuition and other mandatory fees: Actual fees only (no refunds). -Thesis and dissertation costs (once during the entire semester)
  • D Scholar: $10,000; Project Submission: $7,00 for BBA, BCA, MBA, MCA, M.Tech, and other courses
  • Medical Benefits: Scholars are allowed to seek treatment only at medical centre or dispensaries attached to universities / Institutes where they are currently enrolled or in the nearest Government hospital.

Eligibility Requirements

  • An overview of the intended field of research should be included in applications for doctoral and post-doctoral programs.
  • If at all possible, students who want to major in performing arts should send in video or audio tapes of their performances.
  • Candidates need to speak and understand English well.
  • Applications received directly to ICCR by students or through local Embassies/High Commissions in New Delhi will not be accepted.
  • Preference is given to students who have never studied in India before
  • Applications for admission to the MBBS/MD or Dentistry/Nursing programs will not be accepted.
  • Applicants should be aware that Indian universities and other educational institutions are autonomous and independent, meaning they have requirements specific to their own eligibility. Please be aware that the acceptance of your application does not guarantee admission. Scholarships are only given out if ICCR confirms admittance.
  • A valid student visa must be carried. Students need to make sure that the Indian Embassy or High Commission issues them the appropriate visa. According to guidelines set forth by the Government of India, a scholar will be deported to their home country if they arrive without the appropriate visa and their enrollment to the university or institute is not confirmed.
  • The Indian Diplomatic Mission in their home country should provide the scholars with comprehensive information about living conditions in India, scholarship details, and the kind and length of the course they are accepted into before they leave for India.
  • Scholars intending to travel should notify the Indian Embassy/High Commission well in advance so that ICCR may provide for their reception and other needs.
    It is recommended that scholars pack some cash for unforeseen expenses they may incur when visiting India.
  • When applying for admission, scholars who receive scholarships should bring all original documentation proving their eligibility so that the relevant college or university can verify it.

 Application Documents

The application should contain all the required information and all necessary supporting documents, as listed below:

  • Passport size photograph, 3.5×4.5cm (25kb)
  • Academic qualifications, certificates and marksheet,
  • A certificate of physical fitness.
  • Recommendations from existing school
  • Copies of relevant pages of the candidate’s valid passport
  • For Engineering courses, applicants must have Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) in their school leaving examinations
  • Passport Number.
  • Birth Certificate
