Applications for the 4th edition of the prestigious Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize for Journalism are currently being accepted. The Daphne Caruana Galizia Prize is an annual award endorsed by the European Parliament in October 2020, that seeks to honor exceptional journalism that upholds the core principles and values of the European Union (EU).

Journalists and teams of journalists from any nationality, and who meet the eligibility requirements are invited to submit their entries by the specified deadline of July 31, 2024. Each year, the award ceremony is held around October 16 to mark the anniversary of Caruana Galizia’s death.


The Prize offers significant recognition and a monetary award:

  • Prize Money: €20,000Award
  • Ceremony: Held annually in October at the European Parliament in Strasbourg.
  • The winner will be chosen by an independent jury and announced during this ceremony.


The Prize is open to professional journalists or teams of professional journalists who meet the following criteria:

  • Theme: The submitted work must address topics relevant to the EU or its member states and promote EU principles and values as stated in the European Charter of Human Rights.
  • Language: Entries can be submitted in any of the EU’s official languages, but must include a 500-word summary in English.
  • Length: There are no restrictions on the length of the entries.
  • Publication Date: Entries must have been published or broadcast between September 1, 2023, and July 31, 2024, in print, audiovisual, or online media outlets based in one of the 27 EU member states.
  • Entries may be submitted by the authors themselves or by professional media organizations and associations on their behalf.
  • Multiple entries by the same author or team are allowed, but each entry requires a separate application.

Selection Procedure

The jury for the Prize consists of at least 27 esteemed individuals from the media, journalism, and civil society sectors. Their decisions are final and binding.

The winner will be revealed at the Award Ceremony held at the European Parliament.
