About the Norbert and Gretel B. Bloch Endowed Scholarship

The Norbert and Gretel B. Bloch Endowed Scholarship Fund supports students who want to promote understanding of Jewish history, culture, and community life.

Unlike scholarships that provide financial assistance alone, this award also gives the selected student a chance to organize an educational program in collaboration with the Melton Center’s staff.

The student receives a $1,000 scholarship and a separate $2,000 program budget. The additional funding is intended to support the proposed program rather than serve as extra personal living expenses.

Applicants should develop a practical idea that can increase awareness of Jewish Studies and explain how the proposed activity will benefit the university community.

Scholarship Benefits

Successful applicants receive two forms of support.

1. $1,000 scholarship

The selected student receives a $1,000 scholarship through the university’s financial aid system, subject to the applicable award conditions.

2. $2,000 program budget

The scholarship also provides a $2,000 budget for planning and carrying out an educational program related to Jewish life, culture, or history.

The student will work with Melton Centre staff to plan, publicise, and deliver the activity.

This makes the award suitable for students interested in both academic study and educational programming.
