What Is the Agent Based Modelling Scholarship All About?

The Agent Based Modelling Scholarship is a research-based PhD opportunity offered through the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific.

The scholarship is attached to Professor Sue O’Connor’s Australian Laureate Fellowship, a major research initiative investigating the earliest movements of modern humans into Island Southeast Asia.

Students selected for this scholarship will contribute to advanced research that combines archaeology, cultural history, anthropology, and computational modelling techniques to better understand human migration and settlement patterns.

Agent-based modeling is a research method that uses computer simulations to study the behaviors and interactions of individuals or groups over time. In this project, scholars will use these methods to reconstruct and analyze how early humans may have migrated across islands and adapted to different environments.

Although the scholarship provides a generous annual stipend, it does not mention full coverage for tuition fees, travel expenses, accommodation, or health insurance. Therefore, it is considered a partially funded scholarship.
