This program is co-funded by AFAC and the Prince Claus Fund as part of the Fund’s Mentorship Awards, aiming to empower creative documentary photographers in the Arab region.

Program Details

Documentary photography plays a vital role in highlighting overlooked and lesser-known narratives. For nearly a decade, the Arab Documentary Photography Program has been dedicated to supporting innovative, compelling, and non-traditional visual storytelling on social issues relevant to the Arab world. The program has proven to be a significant stepping stone for emerging Arab photographers, providing them with the necessary resources and professional guidance to execute impactful documentary projects.

Despite the successes achieved, there are persistent structural challenges, and the importance of documentary photography practices often goes unrecognized. As we launch the tenth cycle of the Arab Documentary Photography Program, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting documentary photographers in the region. If you are a creative photographer working on socially engaged local stories in the Arab world, we invite you to apply for the 2023 cycle of the program.
